When Coronavirus is over with....

Most of our lives have been turned upside down in the last 2-3 weeks.  The Coronavirus (Covid 19) pandemic has led to big decisions world-wide to close schools, close a lot of businesses, cancel all community events, go virtual, provide drive-thru services, and basically shelter in place.  It's been a disruption to our normal lives, taken away our freedom to gather and go places, it's cost people their jobs, it's taken lives, it's caused the stock market to plunge, and it's forced us to do things very differently.

We are uncertain how long this historical situation will go on, and with uncertainty comes all sorts of emotions.  What's helped me the most is taking one day at time, consuming positive content, and choosing joy over fear and overwhelm.  We are all in this together.  We are all doing the best we can.  Some of us are working harder than ever before, and some of us are being given the gift of time right now.  Are we making good use of our time?  In 10 years will our kids look back on Covid 19 and remember the fun we had, the memories we made, the meals we ate together, the walks we took at night?  Or will they remember how stressful it was for everyone?  Will they remember not going to school and seeing their friends?  Will they remember their parents complaining about having to "home-school" them?  Will they remember watching the News in fear?

One of my favorite online mentors Dave Hollis put out a post the other day with the quote "In the rush to return to normal, use this time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to."  It got me thinking.  When Coronavirus is over with, will we just return to our "normal" lives and forget these weeks of self-distancing?  Will life just go back to way it used to be?  Will we have learned anything?  Gained anything from this extra time we have together?

Will everything just open back up?

Will small businesses just turn their lights back on and put out the OPEN sign and welcome people back in?

Will grocery stores suddenly be stocked again?  Will there no longer be a shortage of toilet paper?

Will kids return to school, will sports and other activities start back up again?

Will people continue washing their hands?

Will we go back to the same old habits or will we have established new ones like exercising every day?

Will we continue talking to our neighbors at night?

Will we still be writing letters to friends and cousins or just go back to being too busy?

We will be more grateful for our teachers and schools?

Will we go to church more?  Give more?  Love more?

Will we have more appreciation for our freedoms?

Will we continue to be creative and thoughtful?

Will we still eat meals around the table with our family or will we suddenly be too busy?

Will we miss this time with our family?  Will we miss any of this?

What will we rush back to?  And what will we decide to do differently?

Has your perspective on life changed at all?

Just my thoughts during Coronavirus....  So.many.thoughts.  So.many.emotions.  So.many.questions.  So.many.memories.  Stay well my friends.  Choose to learn and grow through this.  Choose to be thankful.  Choose to be kind.  Choose joy.  We will get through this one day at a time.  Support your favorite small businesses so they'll stay open once this is all over with.  Play with your kids.  Cook meals together.  Go on walks together.  Make memories with one another.  And pray for those who are struggling through this.

How to Create a Morning Routine

On my journey to create the best version of myself and create a more fulfilling life, I have learned the importance of a good morning routine.  How we start our day can have incredible impact on how the rest of our day goes.  Starting our day with gratitude, time in scripture and prayer, and setting our intentions for the day sets us up for success.  Creating time to work on ourselves and our goals is life changing.  Not feeling rushed, unorganized, and flustered in the morning is important in setting the tone for the day. I have always been someone that wakes up early, mostly because I have to!  In my younger high school days, I would often set my alarm for 4 am to finish up homework or study for a test before an early morning practice.  In college, it was often the same way.  I just never seemed to have enough hours in the day or would tire out early at night, so I was left with early morning hours to get my work done.  As a nurse in the hospi...

Podcasts

You might be someone that has been listening to podcasts for years, or you might be asking what the heck is a podcast?  I discovered podcasts about 2 years ago, and they have literally changed my life.  I used to "multi-task" by running, doing chores, walking the dog, or driving AND listening to music or maybe watching a TV show.  Then one day, I discovered the world of podcasts, and I can't get enough of them.  Did you know podcasts are totally free?  If you have an APPLE device, there is a purple podcast APP already on your device.  Simply click on it and search through thousands of podcasts and subscribe to the ones you want to follow each week. A podcast is essentially an internet radio show that you can listen to via your device.  It's free content on almost any topic you can think of.  The host downloads new episodes each week, giving you something to look forward to.  If you follow any motivational speaker, author, or thought leader,...

What it's like to run a Marathon

Is running a marathon on your list of goals or dreams?  Or does the thought of running 26.2 miles sound absolutely crazy to you?  Maybe running 3 miles sounds like an impossible goal.  I'll admit, running a marathon was definitely not on my aspiration list until about 7 years ago.  I had always enjoyed running, but 3 miles (a 5K) was about my longest run.  I don't know if I even knew anyone who had run a marathon or even a 1/2 marathon back then.  After all, less than 1% of our country's population has completed a full marathon.  26.2 miles is a long ways, right?! 7 years ago, my husband went on a transformation journey of his own, hugely motivated to lose weight and get healthier.  It had been a few years since we had run any sort of distance, and he started with the goal of running a 5K, then a 10K, then decided to sign up for a full marathon in January of 2014.  It was quite a lofty goal, but he was determined to do it, and he had my...
