Life is full of different seasons, and we often have to grow and adapt with each season of life. Just like farming, there are seasons of planting, growing, and harvest, but there are also difficult seasons filled with drought or storms leading to sadness and hardship. But no matter the season, we still have a purpose, and the world needs our unique, beautiful purpose.
Everyone has a purpose and when we lose that sense of purpose and people to share it with, we often become unfulfilled. We NEED purpose, and we NEED to continue cultivating it no matter what season we are walking through.
2020 is not like we imagined it would be. Many have lost jobs, changed jobs, or are working in a job that has required more out of them. Everything is different. Most things are hard. There is fear and uncertainty, tension and division, anxiety and frustration. There is loneliness. There is loss of purpose.
Identity and security might feel lost, but there is purpose to be gained in all of this. We all still have purpose. We can find purpose in 2020 and serve others with our gifts.
Everyone's purpose is different this year.
Your purpose might be to lead your team well through this chaos, to be present and positive and encouraging.
Your purpose might be to show up bravely as a healthcare worker during the middle of a global pandemic, still smiling behind your mask and protective gear, continuing to care for those who need you.
Your purpose might be to work tirelessly to provide essential goods or services.
Your purpose might be to teach kids in a different way whether it is in the classroom or online.
Your purpose might be to care for kids in a daycare while their parents go to their essential jobs.
Your purpose might be to be the very best Grandparent you can be during a season that is stressful for your kids and grandkids.
Your purpose might be to provide meals to those who need it the most.
Your purpose might be to donate blood or volunteer at a food pantry.
Your purpose might be to write a book that people need to read during a hard season.
Your purpose might be to stay at home and homeschool your kids during a season of uncertainty.
Your purpose might be to encourage police officers and other first responders.
Your purpose might be to start a small group in your back yard when meeting for in-person church is not possible at this time.
Your purpose might be to get your house in order (hello clean closets!).
Your purpose might be to work on your relationships.
Your purpose might be to learn a new hobby.
Your purpose might be to pivot into a new career.
Your purpose might be to go back to school.
Your purpose might be to encourage people who are struggling, be a light to others, radiate positivity, and point people to Jesus every chance you get.
Your purpose might be to pray.
My purpose in this season is to bravely work as a nurse practitioner during the middle of a pandemic, show up well for my family and friends, and inspire, motivate, and encourage others through my writing. (I've also used this time to do lots of home improvement projects... love some DIY projects!)
We all have purpose in this season. Things might be different and scary at times, but when we choose to put our purpose over our fear, we find ourselves feeling happier and more fulfilled. No one chose these circumstances, but we can choose how we continue to move forward. We can choose to find purpose in all of this. We can continue showing up well for our people. We can keep going, keep serving, keep smiling and laughing. We can keep doing the best we can with what we have and what we know. We can't control what's going on, but we can certainly control how we respond. Choose to respond well. Choose to have a positive attitude, spread kindness and love, find humor in the craziness, and make sure you are pursuing your purpose.
I pray for those of you who are struggling right now, who are having difficulty finding your purpose, who are fearful of returning to your purpose (teachers and school staff), and those whose purpose has changed. We are all navigating this crazy season together, and we will get to the other side of this with a new appreciation for life and the things we take for granted. God hasn't stopped working, and He will carry us through this challenging season. Know that you are seen and heard and appreciated for how God is using you doing this season.
Stay strong ~ Allison
