What's filling you up during this season of change?

Like the name of my blog and social media accounts, Fill up to Spill out, I am always in pursuit of what fills us up so we can spill out to others.  Not just what makes us happy, but the things that truly fulfill us so we can be a kind human and serve others for the glory of God.  Not things that give us fuel when times are easy, but things that truly give us life when life is different and challenging.  When life is uncertain, like we are experiencing right now.

What's filling you up during this crazy season of change and uncertainty?  What's giving you life so you can keep living life with courage and kindness?  What's keeping you calm and allowing you to look ahead with hope and positivity?  What are you putting into your cup that's serving you so you can live your purpose?

I'll share with you what's going into my cup each day.

1.  Coffee... coffee goes into my cup each morning.  First I drink the coffee, then I do the things.  What better way to start the day?  Coffee, a scoop of vital proteins, a splash of coffee mate, and a sprinkle of cinammon makes me feel like I can take on the day.

2.  Jesus... I start my day with filling up with Jesus.  I spend a little time reading my latest daily devotional, Live in Grace-Walk in Love by Bob Goff (highly recommend!), and then I spend a minute or two in prayer.  No one fills us up like Jesus.

3.  My gratitude and intentional goal setting practice.... Every day for nearly 2 years, I've written in my Start Today Journal.  I write 5 memorable things I'm grateful for from the day before, then I write the 10 things I'm most intentional about (dreams or ambitions I'm in constant pursuit of) and the one goal I'm focusing on right now.

4.  Running... Moving my body every day fills me up.  Getting outside in nature with sunshine and music or a podcast in my ears gives me life.  Right now I'm challenging myself to run/walk 100 miles in August just to keep me motivated.

5.  Surrounding myself with positivity and choosing to radiate positivity... We are what we focus on, and that includes who we focus on.  I'm choosing to surround myself with positive people and positive content in a season where everything seems to be negative.  I'm watching old movies that make me laugh, I'm reading books that inspire and encourage me, I'm listening to worship music and podcasts that fuel me, I'm  following accounts on social media that bring the joy, and I'm hanging out with the people that I love the most.  By surrounding myself with positivity, I naturally feel more positive and choose to radiate positivity for others.

Choosing to fill my cup with these 5 consistent things each day is what allows me to walk through this season with calmness, kindness, courage, grace, and incredible hope.  These months have been different, challenging, and disappointing, but focusing on the right things has helped me get through each day.  We don't just have to survive each day, but we can find ways to thrive if we are pouring the right stuff into our cup each day.  What are you consistently putting into your cup during this season?  Do your routines serve you or harm you?  Is what you are consuming positive or negative?  Are you taking care of yourself?  Or are you trying to pour from an empty cup?

We can't pour from an empty cup, friends.  Choose to fill up with the things that are serving you during this season of change.

I'm praying for you.  ~ Allison

How to Create a Morning Routine

On my journey to create the best version of myself and create a more fulfilling life, I have learned the importance of a good morning routine.  How we start our day can have incredible impact on how the rest of our day goes.  Starting our day with gratitude, time in scripture and prayer, and setting our intentions for the day sets us up for success.  Creating time to work on ourselves and our goals is life changing.  Not feeling rushed, unorganized, and flustered in the morning is important in setting the tone for the day. I have always been someone that wakes up early, mostly because I have to!  In my younger high school days, I would often set my alarm for 4 am to finish up homework or study for a test before an early morning practice.  In college, it was often the same way.  I just never seemed to have enough hours in the day or would tire out early at night, so I was left with early morning hours to get my work done.  As a nurse in the hospi...

Podcasts

You might be someone that has been listening to podcasts for years, or you might be asking what the heck is a podcast?  I discovered podcasts about 2 years ago, and they have literally changed my life.  I used to "multi-task" by running, doing chores, walking the dog, or driving AND listening to music or maybe watching a TV show.  Then one day, I discovered the world of podcasts, and I can't get enough of them.  Did you know podcasts are totally free?  If you have an APPLE device, there is a purple podcast APP already on your device.  Simply click on it and search through thousands of podcasts and subscribe to the ones you want to follow each week. A podcast is essentially an internet radio show that you can listen to via your device.  It's free content on almost any topic you can think of.  The host downloads new episodes each week, giving you something to look forward to.  If you follow any motivational speaker, author, or thought leader,...

What it's like to run a Marathon

Is running a marathon on your list of goals or dreams?  Or does the thought of running 26.2 miles sound absolutely crazy to you?  Maybe running 3 miles sounds like an impossible goal.  I'll admit, running a marathon was definitely not on my aspiration list until about 7 years ago.  I had always enjoyed running, but 3 miles (a 5K) was about my longest run.  I don't know if I even knew anyone who had run a marathon or even a 1/2 marathon back then.  After all, less than 1% of our country's population has completed a full marathon.  26.2 miles is a long ways, right?! 7 years ago, my husband went on a transformation journey of his own, hugely motivated to lose weight and get healthier.  It had been a few years since we had run any sort of distance, and he started with the goal of running a 5K, then a 10K, then decided to sign up for a full marathon in January of 2014.  It was quite a lofty goal, but he was determined to do it, and he had my...
